Everything you need to know about how the case list works.
How can I get my case added?
Use the submission form.
What are the requirements for a case to be added?
It must be a fully-functional, complete case ā not a Work in Progress, and free of known plot-holes that ruin gameplay.
It also needs a functional witness document with appropriate notes, and a clear path through the case made known to the witness.
Requests are allowed for smaller details. Requests that are illogical in the context of the case are not. Requests required for truth should be hinted at in a testimony or court record.
Finally, your plot should be at least logical and reasonably figure-out-able by a person.
How do I select a case to play?
Click the case logo on the card ā it'll open the case document. On mobile, the cards are a bit smaller but the link works the same way.
How do I change the way cases are organised?
Use the Sort dropdown above the grid. You can sort by:
- Difficulty Order ā the original VCL format
- Length Order ā Short, Moderate, Long
- Alphabetical ā AāZ or ZāA
- Newest First ā newest cases at the top
You can also stack filters: e.g. show only Hard cases tagged "Custom Files".
I had an issue with a case on the list ā how can I report it?
DM any issues to one of the editors on Discord: frickau, kfcgull, or pinadapina.
How can I get a case removed from the list?
For any reason, contact the editors on Discord: frickau, kfcgull, or pinadapina.
How long after submission until my case is added?
The goal is to add new cases monthly at the start of each month, but schedules can shift due to other circumstances.
Your case will be tested by an editor ā either by joining a run or supervising one (this run cannot involve the CM).
You'll then be contacted via Discord with the approval/denial. If denied, a valid reason will be provided to help you improve the case.
How frequently is the document updated?
The aim is monthly updates on the first of every month at midnight GMT/BST (depending on Daylight Savings).
Can I submit Non-Vanilla?
Yes ā non-vanilla cases can be submitted. A Google Drive link with the required files for non-vanilla characters will be embedded in the Custom Files tag on the case card.
Are the Google Drive links safe to download?
Yes ā the editors made the Drive links themselves and they're 100% trusted. If you need help with ini-swapping or setting up the files, the Resource Library has guides.
What do the tags mean?
Each case has tags in its description giving extra context:
- Difficulty ā approximate challenge for the defence: Easy, Medium, or Hard.
- Length ā average duration: Short (<3 hours), Moderate (3ā5 hours), Long (5+ hours).
- ā NEW ā recently added in the latest update.
- Tutorial Case ā recommended for starters in the Easy category.
- NSFW ā explicit sexual and/or graphic content. Toggle "Hide NSFW cases" in the filter row to remove these from the list.
- Custom Files ā needs additional asset files; click the tag to download them.
Why is [X] case missing?
Cases are reviewed for playability. If a case doesn't meet the conditions outlined above, it's likely been removed or denied.
For more in-depth info on why a case got removed/denied, contact the editors on Discord (frickau, kfcgull, pinadapina).
How can I get a logo for my case?
Logos are made for every approved VCL case. If you'd like to use the logo for your own case page, ask an editor for permission and credit them on the case.
Logos generally aren't created for cases that aren't going on VCL ā they take time to make.
Logos are made by Wolfang (Discord: luwolfang), Fricka, Pina, and Knight. Don't use them without permission.
Can I change the logo for my case?
If you don't like the provided logo, or have a different idea, DM an editor on Discord and they'll try to help suit the design to your needs. If you want to make your own, they can offer guidance on that too (no guarantees).
Can I make my own version/copy of VCL?
Other case lists are welcome ā but please don't copy the formatting of VCL. The team has put significant time into the doc, so any plagiarism (even unintentional) is discouraged.
What constitutes a case being NSFW?
A case depicting murder is far from enough to be NSFW (that's what Ace Attorney is built on). NSFW means more overt and gruesome depictions ā gore images, evidence with technical/violent imagery that may unsettle some viewers.
NSFW also includes nudity or sexual themes that aren't appropriate for minors. A case can touch on these themes (and sensitive topics like suicide) as long as it isn't overly explicit.
How do I make a case?
Everyone has their own approach, but Fricka has written a guide that can help and provide advice on supporting VCL. Find the guide here.
